When former US president late John F Kennedy was elected, he said the following words during his inaugural address. “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”
These words were not only historic but motivational too. And it rings true for people in every country and every continent. We can always find people who wait for the nation or its government to do everything for them. But for every right, there is a duty. A country will only prosper if its people make constructive contributions.
As a nation, Oman has been blessed by the visionary leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who transformed this country into the modern and vibrant economy that it is now. It is true that we have been facing unprecedented odds in the past couple of years. And there are questions raised about the efficacy of the government machinery. But the fact is that a nation's success is dependent on the combined efforts of the government and the people.
Inspired by the immortal words of President Kennedy, we posed the same question to business leaders, both Omani and expatriate, to know what they would do for the development of Oman. We have received inspiring responses and we are sharing those with you in this edition.
On the occasion of the 47th National Day we extend our heartfelt wishes to His Majesty the Sultan, the nationals and all the residents of the Sultanate.
