Last year was very tough, but 2017 has started pretty well and I believe the best is yet to come. Being part of the oil and gas sector, we are seeing some positive indications this year, which is boosting our confidence. The biggest positive is the increase in crude oil prices which is a great news as it is the single largest source of revenue for our economy.
I have big hopes that Tanfeedh will come up better solutions for a healthier economy. The programme is helmed by a group of experts. Staying positive and taking action are vital and executing these ideas within a set time frame is the biggest challenge.
Keeping in mind that the government has came up with income diversification plans, we have been investing worldwide through different national funds. The government has also renewed its focus on mining. New projects are coming up despite challenges, like the convention centre, the new airport and the freezones, which are attracting foreign investments. These are all positive indications of change during a really challenging time.
Genesis Projects and Investments, being a laboratory for both downstream and upstream analysis, was going through complications at the early stages of operations. It wasn't easy to start a company at a difficult time back in 2014. The cost-cutting strategies by oil companies had affected us greatly. But by adopting innovative strategies we have came to a point where we are reaching stability and seeking growth.
In general, starting a business here is not easy. Therefore I recommend entrepreneurs to think niche and never give up on their dreams.
