Best Supermarket brand: Lulu

Preferences seem to have changed in two years
Under 45: Lulu
45 & Above: Lulu
Since supermarkets invariably figured first in the minds of a majority of respondents when the word 'retail' was mentioned, it was decided to do away with the category 'Best Retail Outlet' in the 2008 survey.
This year we reintroduce it as a new category: Best Supermarket. Preferences seem to have changed in two years - in 2007 (the last time we had retail as a category in the survey), Carrefour held the imagination of a large majority as the ultimate shopping destination.
This year Lulu occupies the top spot, beating Carrefour, which remains more popular among Omanis by a small margin. Sultan Centre, which was at #3 in the list last time, has managed to retain the same rank in this year's survey, too.
Where shoppers stop
Al Fair, which was last on the list in 2007, moves to #4 this time. Safeer, which was at #5 in 2007 even when the survey was on Best Retailer, has failed to make it to the list despite this year's question being specific to supermarkets. Another supermarket that has dropped out of the list from 2007 is K M Trading.
The great divide
The lineup in this category is entirely different among Omanis and expatriates. While it is Carrefour, Lulu, Al Fair and Sultan Centre for Omanis, in the case of expatriates it is Lulu, Carrefour, Sultan Centre and Al Fair.
