Oman's ties with Taiwan could be bolstered by several new and exciting joint initiatives in previously unexplored areas like fishing, aquaculture and downstream petrochemical and cement units, according to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) here.

Taiwan can be an ideal partner for Omani companies to develop downstream petrochemical industries, cement factories and fishing and aquaculture firms," says Jackson T Lee, representative of TECO in Oman.

"Solar energy was not a priority area in the Gulf till recently due to availability of cheap oil and gas. However, the Oman government is giving importance to solar energy now. The efficiency level of solar power produced by Taiwanese companies is not as good as their counterparts in Europe. But the price of the machinery is cheap. It is ideal for a thinly populated country like Oman," he says."
